📄 Abstract(原文)

Waste biomass-derived porous carbons offer a promising route for combining biomass valorization with carbon capture, including emerging applications in onboard carbon capture for maritime decarbonization. However, the practical potential of new adsorbents for this application requires systematic evaluation beyond material-level adsorption capacity. This study developed waste corrugated paper-derived carbon aerogels as monolithic adsorbents for shipborne carbon dioxide capture and assessed their preparation, adsorption performance, process feasibility, and environmental impacts. Hierarchical porous carbon aerogels with tunable pore structures were prepared through phosphoric acid activation, and the effect of activation agent ratio on pore evolution and carbon dioxide adsorption behavior was investigated. Phosphoric acid activation promoted micropore development and enhanced adsorption performance, whereas excessive activation caused pore widening and reduced carbon dioxide uptake. The optimal carbon aerogel achieved a specific surface area of 1021 m 2 /g and showed superior carbon dioxide adsorption performance. Process simulation of temperature swing adsorption indicated a carbon dioxide productivity of 10.59 kg/(ton·h), while the required adsorbent inventory accounted for only 0.09% of the vessel deadweight, suggesting good compatibility with shipborne operation. Life cycle assessment further showed that the onboard adsorption system achieved an overall global warming potential of -1.34 × 10 7 kg carbon dioxide equivalent over a 10-year operational period. This work demonstrates that waste corrugated paper-derived carbon aerogels are technically feasible and environmentally meaningful adsorbents for adsorption-based shipborne carbon capture.
