English

A techno-economic assessment of a pilot-scale CCU plant coupled to industrial flue gas. It estimates capex/opex, levelized cost of CO2 capture, IRR, NPV and payback under varying conditions, finding capture carries high energy penalties while the utilization route improves economics. Sensitivity strongly affects scale-up viability.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

Globally, CCU is a key lever for hard-to-abate industry under ISSB/CSRD transition-plan disclosure. This pilot-scale cost evidence helps investors and regulators judge whether CCU retrofits can credibly support net-zero transition plans and transition-finance eligibility.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The industrial industries are still one of the worst contributors to worldwide CO2 by-products, and there is an imperative necessity to implement deployable solutions that can be applied to the already existing plants to mitigate the carbon footprint. Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) can provide a better avenue as it allows reducing the emissions and producing value-added products at the same time. This paper is a techno-economic evaluation of a pilot-scale CCU plant coupled with a source of industrial flue gas. Economic analysis involved estimation of the capital and operating costs and then levelized cost of CO2 capture, level of internal rates of return, net present value and the payback period under different operational conditions. The findings show that the pilot plant can be highly captured with relatively high energy penalties, and the utilization route chosen increases the overall economic appeal. The sensitivity analysis has a strong impact on the viability of scale-up.
