English

This paper reviews the production pathways of green ammonia for marine decarbonization and its application in marine engines. It systematically examines combustion efficiency and emissions of pure ammonia and blends with hydrogen, diesel, etc. Blended strategies improve combustion stability and reduce CO2, but NOx control remains a challenge. Hydrogen addition or high-reactivity pilot fuels mitigate ammonia's low flame speed; combined with SCR, NOx emissions can be reduced below 1 g/kWh.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Sulfur emission regulations and "dual carbon" goals are driving the shipping industry toward zero-carbon fuels. This paper reviews green ammonia production pathways and their application in marine engines. Green ammonia, synthesized via renewable-energy-driven electrochemical processes, enables near-zero carbon emissions. The review systematically examines the combustion efficiency and emissions of pure ammonia and its blends (with hydrogen, diesel/biodiesel, and methanol/ethanol) in both compression-ignition and spark-ignition engines. Blended strategies improve combustion stability and reduce CO2 emissions, but NOx control remains a critical challenge. Hydrogen addition or high-reactivity pilot fuels effectively mitigate ammonia’s low laminar flame speed and long ignition delay. When combined with homogeneous combustion and selective catalytic reduction (SCR), NOx emissions can be reduced to below 1 g/kWh. Overall, green ammonia is a promising marine alternative fuel, though further optimization of blending strategies and emission control is required for commercial deployment.
