📄 Abstract(原文)

Forest ecology is central to achieving sustainable development goals that help eradicate poverty and hunger. Climate change rapidly affects the attainment and conservation of forest ecology. Deforestation is another concern that exacerbates climate risk and contributes to increased flooding. The objective of the study is to examine the direct linkages between climate risk and forest ecology by using quarterly data from Pakistan for the period from 1990Q1 to 2024Q4. The long time horizon enables regional events, policy changes, economic crises, technological developments, and climate change to be taken into account, which can affect the variables analyzed. Quarterly data provides a more detailed and dynamic picture of short-run fluctuations and seasonal variations than annual data, thereby enhancing the robustness of trend analysis and empirical estimation. The study used the Robust Least Squares (RLS) regression technique with the MM-estimator (Method of Moments estimator), which is robust to outliers, heteroskedasticity, and non-normal error terms. The results show that water resource scarcity, rising average temperatures, the use of modern farming techniques, and rising rural poverty causes greater damage to forest ecology. Further, the role of community stakeholders in adapting forest ecosystems, promoting water conservation practices, and mitigating water scarcity contributes significantly to the sustainable growth of forest resources in a country. The study concludes by emphasizing the role of climate-mitigating factors, including reforestation initiatives, carbon emissions reduction, sustainable land management, and environmental policy measures, in improving forest resources through a sustainable and policy-driven approach aimed at minimizing the risks associated with extreme weather events.
