This study integrates product carbon footprint accounting with process-route planning into a multiobjective optimization model covering machine electricity, tool wear and cutting-fluid use. Using NSGA-III, it minimizes carbon emissions and completion time simultaneously, achieving 627.47g CO2 and 596s on a published benchmark—1.31% and 13.75% better than reported NSGA-II results. A compromise route cuts benchmark values by 4.96% and 14.89%.

In the global GX context
Product-level carbon footprint accounting at the process route level feeds directly into Scope 3 upstream and operational emissions disclosure under ISSB/CSRD and customer-driven PCF requests. It shows how optimization can co-deliver emissions and productivity gains, relevant to global supply-chain decarbonization mandates.

📄 Abstract(原文)
To improve both environmental performance and production efficiency in manufacturing, this study proposes a multiobjective process optimization method integrating product carbon footprint accounting with process-route planning. The carbon footprint model considers machine electricity consumption, cutting-tool wear and cutting-fluid consumption, while the optimization model simultaneously minimizes total carbon emissions and completion time under operation precedence, resource-selection and machine-switching constraints. NSGA-III is employed to obtain a diverse set of Pareto-optimal process routes. To strengthen data-based validation and reproducibility, the numerical experiment uses the published guide-shaft-support machining dataset reported by Yang et al., including ten machining features, 20 operations, seven machines, nine cutting tools, the precedence relationships, feasible machine-tool combinations and option-specific processing times. The proposed NSGA-III obtains minimum carbon emissions and completion time of 627.47g CO2 and 596s, respectively. Compared with the improved NSGA-II results reported for the same benchmark, these minima are 1.31% and 13.75% lower. The recommended compromise solution reaches 638.83g CO2 and 600s, reducing the reported benchmark compromise values by 4.96% and 14.89%, respectively. Route-level analysis attributes most of the time improvement to reducing machine switches from 10 to 5. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of coordinating machining sequence and machine-tool allocation while providing a transparent published-data-based comparison.
