English
This paper presents the District Energy Model (DEM), a Python framework for modeling renewable energy integration and flexibility at district scale. DEM enables modeling, simulation, and optimization of sector-coupled energy systems with low deployment effort, as it is fully parametrized and bundled with open input data. It facilitates rapid assessment of renewable energy technology impacts and can be extended to other regions.

📄 Abstract(原文)
The transition to locally generated, decentralised, and renewable energy technologies is a promising pathway toward net-zero emissions and a decarbonised energy system. This transition requires systematic evaluation of potential future scenarios for technology adoption across multiple spatial and temporal scales. Here we present the District Energy Model (DEM), a software for modelling, simulating, and optimising local and regional sector-coupled energy systems. Compared to other software with similar functionality, DEM offers very low deployment effort, because it is a fully parametrised model bundled together with the required input data, both of which are openly available. These can be extended to other regions. Thereby, DEM offers users an ideal tool for the fast assessment of the impact of renewable energy technologies.
