📄 Abstract(原文)

Biomass is a cheap, abundant and renewable resource available on earth for bioenergy production. Approximately 1.8 trillion t per year of biomass is produced the world over. This corresponds to a technical energy potential of 57 EJ per year. If poorly disposed, biomass can pose serious harm to people and the environment. Use of biomass from anthropogenic sources, such as agricultural, forestry and municipal activities, minimizes the reliance on fossil fuels, and reduces environmental degradation and global climate change. Biomass is usually classified into forest biomass, crop residues, livestock waste, sewage sludge, algae, dedicated energy crops and municipal solid waste. Forestry is the major producer of biomass in the world, accounting for about 89.3% of the total standing biomass. Biomass can replace fossil fuels in electric power generation and as a vehicular fuel, whilst it can be used in its unprocessed form or converted to advanced fuels using conversion technologies. A gamut of thermochemical and biochemical technologies is widely available to process biomass into clean renewable energy. Common technologies involve combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, liquefaction, fermentation, anaerobic digestion and transesterification. Besides being used in power generation, biomass utilization has been touted as a way to create jobs, generate income, promote education, and reduce indoor and environmental pollution, inter alia.
