This study demonstrates direct photo- and electrothermal swing CO2 capture using 2D conjugated MOFs, Cu3(HHTP)2 and its derivatives, which release captured CO2 under one-sun irradiation or a 10 V bias. The system operates across 1–50% CO2 at 4–5 cycles/h with capacities of 0.04–1.11 mmol/g, and alkylamine functionalization triples capacity while cutting regeneration energy to 145 and 60 kJ/mol for 1% and 10% CO2. Integrating energy conversion and adsorption sites in one porous material offers a blueprint for solar-driven, electrified carbon management.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
Globally, CCUS is a key pillar of net-zero pathways under ISSB/TCFD transition planning, yet energy penalties of regeneration remain a barrier. This work offers a materials-level route to lower-energy, electrified CO2 capture, relevant to industrial decarbonization and carbon-removal accounting discussions.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Adsorbent regeneration in carbon dioxide capture systems primarily relies on external temperature and pressure swings, posing critical challenges of intensive energy penalties and low cycling rates. Here we demonstrate a direct photo- and electrothermal swing method for CO 2 capture using two-dimensional conjugated MOF Cu 3 (2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene) 2 (Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 ) and its derivatives. Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 releases CO 2 captured at room-temperature through photo- or electrothermal effects by directly applying one-sun irradiation or a voltage of 10 V. The capture-release process operates across 1%-50% CO 2 with a cyclic frequency of 4-5 h -1 and adsorption capacities of 0.04-1.11 mmol g -1 . Incorporating alkylamine groups into Cu 3 (HHTP) 2 further enhances CO 2 adsorption capacity by more than three-fold, with corresponding energy consumptions down to 145 and 60 kJ mol -1 for 1% and 10% CO 2 , respectively, via photothermal regeneration. Structurally integrating energy conversion functions and CO 2 adsorption sites within a single, porous material establishes a new blueprint for solar-driven and electrified carbon management.
