📄 Abstract(原文)
It is increasingly apparent that the global energy transition is predicated on secure supply chains for strategic minerals, which have historically been prone to geographic concentration, susceptible to geopolitical tensions, and sensitive to fluctuations in global commodity markets. Vanadium perfectly exemplifies these intricacies, dynamically evolving from traditional metallurgical applications to a notable enabler of renewable energy infrastructure such as in long-duration energy storage. Here, we map the global vanadium supply chain, detailing advances in primary extraction and secondary recycling that forge a path toward circularity. We demonstrate how vanadium's role is shifting and undergoing unprecedented growth while maintaining its outsized impact on emissions abatement from microalloying and in battery energy storage systems. By integrating techno-economic assessments, policy impacts, and emerging innovations, we show that geographically diverse, circular vanadium networks offer a strategically resilient and geographically distributed blueprint for critical mineral supply chains in an era of diverse and accelerating technological demand.
