English

This keynote argues that a climate-neutral industry requires technological innovation and close industry-science-policy cooperation, with maintaining competitiveness a central challenge for Europe. The renewable transition and energy efficiency push force firms to rethink operations and strategy while opening opportunities for better processes, resilience and new markets. Aligning economic, social and policy conditions with technological progress is framed as key to industrial competitiveness, with the NEFI conference as a dialogue platform.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

Frames the global debate on industrial decarbonization versus competitiveness, resonating with EU CBAM, transition finance and national industrial policy discussions. It adds a socio-technical lens to how disclosure and policy conditions shape investment in green industry.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The path towards a climate-neutral industry requires technological innovation, interdisciplinary research and close cooperation between industry, science and policymakers. Achieving this transformation while maintaining international competitiveness is a central challenge for Austria and Europe. Industrial companies also face challenges from energy costs, changing global markets and the need for reliable infrastructure. At the same time, the transition offers opportunities to improve production processes, strengthen economic resilience and develop new markets. Turning these opportunities into practical solutions is essential to securing a sustainable and competitive industrial future. The reduction of industrial greenhouse gas emissions is a key contribution to achieve national and European climate goals. The transition to renewable energy and the drive to improve energy efficiency require companies to rethink their approach, both in their day-to-day operations and in their long-term strategies. Successful transformation also depends on economic, social and political conditions that support investment and the adoption of new solutions. Aligning these conditions with technological progress can help strengthen industrial competitiveness and create new opportunities for companies and regions. In this context, the 4 th NEFI Conference provides a platform for dialogue and exchange among stakeholders from academia, research, industry, public administration and politics. Under the motto “Future Industry – Innovating for Competitiveness”, the conference explores how innovative technologies can help the industry to achieve climate neutrality and economic success. It presents current research findings and practical applications, while bringing together national and international perspectives on the technological, economic and regulatory conditions needed to support a competitive, climate-neutral industry.
