English
This study designs a Net Zero Energy secondary school in Minna, Nigeria, integrating passive design (natural ventilation, daylighting, insulation) with solar PV and rainwater harvesting. Simulations show that integrated sustainable strategies can significantly cut energy use and achieve net-zero performance under tropical conditions. It offers a replicable framework for sustainable educational architecture in developing countries.

In the global GX context
This paper contributes to global building decarbonization and net-zero targets, offering empirical evidence from a tropical developing-country context that is underrepresented in TCFD/ISSB-aligned real estate and infrastructure disclosure. It supports the case for passive design and on-site renewables as cost-effective pathways to net-zero buildings.

📄 Abstract(原文)
ABSTRACT This research explores the design and implementation of a Net Zero Energy School in Gidan Kwano, Minna, Niger State, with an emphasis on resource optimization and sustainability. The study aims to address the growing energy demands of educational facilities while reducing environmental impact and operational costs. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, including a review of relevant literature, site analysis, climate data assessment, and evaluation of existing design strategies for energy efficiency. The methodology integrates passive design principles such as natural ventilation, daylight optimization, and thermal insulation with renewable energy technologies like solar photovoltaic systems and rainwater harvesting. Design simulations and energy performance analyses were conducted to validate proposed solutions. The findings demonstrate that, when appropriately integrated, sustainable building strategies can significantly reduce energy consumption and achieve net zero energy performance within the context of Niger State’s climatic conditions. This study provides a framework for sustainable educational architecture in developing countries, contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts and setting a precedent for future school developments in similar regions
