English
This review examines hard carbon production from diverse biomass residues across feedstock chemistry, pretreatment, carbonization, post-treatment, structure, environmental impact, economics and scalability. Properties are strongly governed by biomass chemistry and processing severity, while excessive pretreatment and activation raise energy, chemical, water and cost burdens. Environmental benefits cannot be assumed from renewable origin alone and require life-cycle assessment; viability hinges on feedstock logistics, carbon yield, processing intensity and co-product valorization. Feedstock heterogeneity, reproducibility, scale-up and data gaps remain key barriers.

In the global GX context
Hard carbon is a candidate anode material for sodium-ion batteries, tying into battery supply-chain decarbonization and materials transition finance. Its insistence on life-cycle evidence over renewable-origin assumptions speaks directly to Scope 3 accounting and product carbon footprint disclosure under ISSB/CSRD.

📄 Abstract(原文)
The conversion of biomass waste into hard carbon offers a promising pathway for transforming underutilized renewable resources into value-added functional materials. This review critically examines the production of hard carbon from diverse biomass residues, with emphasis on feedstock composition, pretreatment, carbonization, post-treatment, structural characteristics, environmental impacts, economic feasibility and technological scalability. The analysis demonstrates that hard-carbon properties are strongly governed by biomass chemistry and processing conditions, while excessive pretreatment, activation and thermal severity can increase energy consumption, chemical demand, water use and production costs. Environmental benefits therefore cannot be assumed solely from the renewable origin of the precursor and must be evaluated using life-cycle approaches. Similarly, economic viability depends on feedstock logistics, carbon yield, processing intensity, energy requirements, product consistency and co-product valorization. The review identifies feedstock heterogeneity, process reproducibility, scale-up and limited data as major barriers and proposes integrated, resource-efficient pathways for sustainable hard-carbon production.
