📄 Abstract（原文）
1 Introduction The objective of this collection of papers is to shed light on the contribution the European hydropower sector can provide to a renewable clean and competitive energy and power system. Hydropower in Europe has been developed and formed for delivering different services to the society and not just renewable energy (kWh’s) or system services for supporting the stability of the power grids (kW, reactive power, voltage support) both also services within transport, flood management, water security, recreational possibilities. The research frontier of hydropower science has gradually been extended towards higher efficiency, lower cost and lowered environmental impacts. This is also seen in the selected papers in this publication. This preface will use the collection of papers to look beyond the current research frontier and discuss what is needed to revamp the hydropower research so that European hydropower resources can contribute to the Clean Energy Transition (CET) aligned with important European policies such as: The Nature Restoration Law 1 , Net-Zero Industry Act 2 , The Electricity Market Reform 3 and REMIT framework 4 , 5 th Energy Package 5 , Water framework directive 6 , the revised Renewable Energy Directive 7 . The challenge is to transform hydropower in a sustainable way so that the society and fully take advantage of the capability of Europe’s hydropower resources for integrating other variable renewable energy sources (VRE) and thereby reduce investments needs and operation cost in the power system so that CET can be achieved alongside competitiveness improvements following from lower European power prices. Technologically the complexity of hydropower units has the format to play a key role in Europe’s Clean Industrial Deal where competitiveness in a geopolitical sense plays a vital role.
