English
This study examines how ESG disclosure affects the financial performance (ROA) of sharia-compliant firms in Indonesia's Jakarta Islamic Index 70, using Bloomberg data from 2020–2024 and panel regression. Individually, environmental, social, and governance disclosures show no significant effect, but jointly ESG disclosure significantly affects financial performance. The findings suggest integrated ESG practices matter more than single dimensions, offering evidence from an understudied Islamic-finance context.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
Adds empirical evidence from an Islamic-finance and emerging-market setting to the global ESG-disclosure-to-performance literature, which is dominated by developed-market samples. The finding that integrated ESG disclosure matters more than individual pillars resonates with ISSB/CSRD moves toward holistic, connected sustainability reporting rather than siloed E/S/G metrics.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Purpose:This study examines the effect of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosure on the financial performance of sharia-compliant companies listed in the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) 70. The study is motivated by the growing importance of ESG, inconsistent prior findings, and limited evidence from Indonesian sharia-compliant non-financial companies.Design/Methodology:This study employs a quantitative approach using secondary data from Bloomberg Terminal covering the 2020–2024 period. Panel data regression is applied to examine the effects of environmental, social, and governance disclosure on Return on Assets (ROA).Findings:The results reveal that environmental, social, and governance disclosures do not individually have a significant effect on ROA. However, ESG disclosure jointly has a significant effect on financial performance, indicating that integrated ESG practices contribute more than individual ESG dimensions.Practical Implications:The findings encourage sharia-compliant companies to strengthen the integration of ESG and provide useful information for investors and regulators to promote sustainable business practices.Originality/Value:This study contributes to the ESG literature by providing empirical evidence on the effects of ESG disclosure on the financial performance of sharia-compliant companies in Indonesia.
