This study investigates the mediating role played by strategy implementation consistency (SIC), operationalised through planning consistency, structural alignment, communication coherence, process discipline, and monitoring and evaluation stability, in organisational sustainability conceptualised through the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework, resulting in Organisational performance conceptualised through financial, operational and market performance, in Nigerian deposit money banks (DMBs). Using a qualitative multiple-case design and a deductive-dominant thematic analysis, the study analyses annual reports, sustainability disclosures, corporate governance statements, and strategic communications of leading Nigerian DMBs over the 2020-2024 period. Drawing on dynamic capabilities theory, this study conceptualises SIC as the sustained alignment of strategic planning, structural configuration, communication processes, operational systems, and monitoring mechanisms with declared strategic objectives over time. Findings indicate that banks demonstrating higher levels of strategy implementation consistency exhibit stronger institutionalisation of sustainability practices and achieve higher organisational performance. The study contributes to strategy and sustainability literature by positioning implementation consistency as a dynamic organisational capability. It further provides insights for bank leadership and regulators seeking to strengthen sustainability performance through consistent strategic implementation.
