In the global GX context

As ISSB/SSBJ standards push mandatory sustainability disclosure, board composition and its effect on disclosure quality gain regulatory attention. This China-based case study offers empirical evidence on how gender diversity shapes non-financial reporting, relevant to global debates on board governance and disclosure infrastructure under CSRD and ISSB.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Although the authorities and others have begun to give more attention to non-financial data recently, how the gender ratio of a board of directors affects disclosure quality has not been well-researched. A bipolar design will be employed in this paper to compare Dongpeng Holdings (high gender diversity) and Zhongji Changshou Science (low gender diversity) based on archival materials such as ESG reports, annual reports and public announcements from 2019 to 2023. Based on the above analysis, it is concluded that gender diversity can enhance the quality of non-financial information disclosure by expanding the scope of focus for issues in the minds of diverse groups and strengthening the supervisory function to prevent misleading disclosure. It will be influenced by the institutional environment and the industry's awareness of social issues. Based on the theory of mechanisms, contextual boundary conditions have been set, and some practical suggestions have been put forward for board structure and disclosure.
