📄 Abstract（原文）
ABSTRACT This article places university sustainability within broader literatures of critical and abolitionist university studies to understand how it depoliticizes environmental action and dispels more radical possibilities from students, faculty, staff, and non‐university organizations. We situate university sustainability historically through an examination of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)'s self‐reported Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). Empirically, we analyze over 700 self‐reported “points of distinction” reported to STARS. We then develop a case study method for examining university sustainability using these points of distinction, with an analysis of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Our investigation of VCU sustainability shows a lack of resources and effort, unclear measurement, monitoring, reporting, and verification, and an absence of historical and spatial context for the university's actions. We invite geographers to engage in similar investigations of their university sustainability initiatives, against and beyond the limitations of STARS.
