English
Using multiple regression on 60 observations of Indonesian mining firms (2021–2024), this study finds that managerial ownership and profitability are significantly negatively associated with carbon disclosure, while total assets show no significant effect. The results suggest profitable, insider-heavy firms limit voluntary environmental transparency to avoid public pressure, underscoring the need for stricter mandatory disclosure rules.

In the global GX context
As ISSB/SSBJ and CSRD push disclosure from voluntary to mandatory, this paper provides emerging-market evidence that voluntary carbon reporting can be strategically suppressed by profitable, insider-controlled firms — reinforcing the global policy case for mandatory climate disclosure regimes.

📄 Abstract(原文)
General Background Environmental transparency illustrates the extent to which corporations report greenhouse gases generated from their operational activities. Specific Background The Indonesian mining sector is a primary contributor to national greenhouse gases, yet numerous coal enterprises fail to comprehensively report severe pollutants like methane. Knowledge Gap Previous literature yields inconsistent findings regarding how corporate governance and financial metrics relate to environmental reporting accountability. Aims This study analyzes the role of internal shareholding, total assets, and financial returns concerning climate reporting among mining firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2021 to 2024. Results Multiple linear regression analysis of 60 observational data points reveals that internal shareholding and financial returns exhibit a significant negative relationship with environmental transparency, whereas total assets demonstrate no significant association. Simultaneously, these variables account for 25.1 percent of the reporting variance. Novelty This research reveals that high internal holding and financial success unexpectedly reduce environmental transparency, as management prioritizes cost efficiency and financial stability over voluntary reporting. Implications The findings suggest that voluntary environmental reporting allows highly profitable mining firms to restrict transparency to avoid public pressure, indicating a critical need for stricter regulatory frameworks. Highlights: High internal shareholding significantly reduces environmental reporting transparency. Financial success correlates negatively with greenhouse gas accountability in the mining sector. Total corporate assets demonstrate no significant relationship with climate-related communication. Keywords: Managerial Ownership, Company Size, Corporate Profitability, Carbon Emissions, Environmental Disclosure
