Sustainable financing – how to shift towards the transition? The authors argue that Europe must expand its sustainable finance framework to better support transition finance, which helps high-emitting sectors decarbonise. Current European Union (EU) regulations focus on ‘green’ activities, leaving a funding gap for industries without immediate low-carbon alternatives. Recognising transition finance as integral (not separate) from sustainable finance is essential to bridge the investment gap and achieve net-zero goals.
