📄 Abstract（原文）
Sustainable finance has emerged as a transformative approach to financial decision-making by integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into investment and corporate practices. Among the various strategies available to promote sustainability, investor-driven divestment and engagement have gained increasing importance in encouraging companies to comply with environmental and sustainability standards. This study aims to examine the sustainable finance strategies preferred by retail individual investors, with particular emphasis on divestment, engagement, and a combination of both strategies. It also investigates whether investors’ educational qualifications and market experience are associated with their choice of sustainable finance strategy. The study adopted a quantitative research approach based on primary data collected from 121 retail individual investors. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were employed to examine investors’ preferences and determine the association between demographic characteristics and their selected sustainable finance strategies. The findings indicate that engagement is the most preferred strategy among retail individual investors for encouraging companies to adhere to environmental regulations and sustainability practices. Further, investors’ educational qualifications and years of market experience were found to be significantly associated with their choice of sustainable finance strategy. These findings highlight the role of investor knowledge and experience in shaping sustainable investment-related decisions. The study provides useful insights for financial institutions, policymakers, companies, and investor-education agencies in designing initiatives that strengthen ESG awareness and promote active investor engagement in sustainable corporate practices.
